Watermark PDF stamps your own text - such as CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, PAID, or a company name - across every page of a document. The watermark is applied with adjustable transparency so the underlying content stays readable, and it becomes part of the page content, so it shows in every PDF viewer and on every printout. Watermarking is the standard way to mark document status (draft vs. final), assert ownership before sharing a proposal, or discourage redistribution of paid content. Because the mark is embedded on each page rather than added as a removable annotation, casual readers cannot simply delete it in a PDF viewer.

Watermarks vs. password protection
A watermark is visible deterrence: it marks status or ownership on the page itself but does not stop anyone from opening or copying the file.
Password protection (Protect PDF) is access control: it encrypts the file so only people with the password can open it.
For sensitive documents shared externally, using both is common - a CONFIDENTIAL watermark for visibility plus a password for access control.

What text can I use as a watermark?
Any short text: CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, APPROVED, PAID, a company name, or a recipient name. Short, uppercase words in a diagonal layout are the most legible convention.
Will the watermark hide my document content?
No. The watermark is drawn with transparency so the page content underneath remains readable. You control how strong the mark appears.
Does the watermark appear when the PDF is printed?
Yes. The watermark is embedded into the page content itself, so it appears in every viewer and on paper.
Can a watermark be removed later?
Not casually - it is flattened into the page rather than added as a separate annotation. Determined editing tools can attempt removal, so treat watermarks as a deterrent, not as security. For real protection, combine with Protect PDF.
Can I watermark only some pages?
The watermark is applied to all pages of the uploaded file. To watermark only a section, split those pages out first with Split PDF, watermark them, then merge back.
